This is an exciting opportunity for a well-established, highly experienced individual with a comprehensive technical and commercial background, who will be responsible for leading our Programme Management function at both an operational and strategic level, reporting directly to the CEO and managing a rapidly growing team in a fast-paced environment. In addition, this role will act as a key senior stakeholder in our Executive Leadership Team.
The Programme Director will work with our international client base including China, Singapore, Brazil, Southern and Northern Europe to lead and support the delivery of complex projects and play a fundamental role in contributing and delivering the Company’s global strategy.
Purpose of the Job
To manage the fulfilment of contractual commitments to its customers whilst developing and maintaining
relationships with customers to deliver the Company’s global strategy. The role is responsible for delivery of the overall programme schedule ensuring all customer contracts are delivered on time in the most efficient manner. Reporting into the role, will be a team of end-to-end (“E2E”) customer project managers/engineers and through a matrix management system they will also have functional Project Managers as part of their team. The team will operate on a global basis, primarily through UK and China.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Resource and Project Planning
- Provide input and advice during the sales process on timings, potential project challenges and cost estimations
- Manage the handover from sales to delivery, establishing the project team requirements and proactively addressing any necessary decisions and changes which have contractual impact with the customer and/or partners
- Develop schedules and plan resources accurately to maintain up to date knowledge of sales and projects pipeline, in order to plan supply chain and project delivery requirements
- Work closely with engineering, production and the installation teams to develop and execute project delivery in accordance with agreed timeframes, with continuous improvement of process efficiency through communicating customer feedback internal teams
Global Project Management & Delivery
- Prepare the strategic plan for the Programme Management Department to ensure the department can scale with the business and deliver a global operation. Participate and lead strategic initiatives as required
- Overall responsibility for projects; including planning, schedules, scope variation and delivery to ensure that company products and associated items are being delivered to the shipyards or clients, ready for final installation and commissioning
- Oversee all the individual departmental project plans to ensure the customer needs can be met and the projects are delivered on time on the most effective manner
- Further develop, implement and monitor professional project management processes and procedures to ensure successful delivery of projects
- Proactively engage in project delivery activities and being able to influence where change may be required
- and pull on resources as needed
- Responsible for profit and loss of customer contract delivery and for overall and individual project risk management including regular reporting to senior management and board of directors. Work with Finance to determine project departments profitability and cash flows
- Oversee communication with the customer and service provider, ensuring that expectations are
- carefully managed. Manage project and client escalations to the satisfaction of the company and of clients, as and when required
- Ensure that any contract variations are managed effectively and ensuring a smooth handover at the start and end of all customer contracts
Delivery of Project Services
- Responsible for delivery of customer project services including integration design, plan approval, liaising with the customers, yards, classification societies and design houses as appropriate. In close collaboration with Anemoi China
- Manage all services to deliver on time and to achieve company profit margins
- Carefully manage contract scope through project delivery, to meet customer expectations
After-Sales Support and Services
- Ensure a smooth handover to the after sales manager, taking on board any lessons learnt throughout the project and installation to ensure continuous process improvement for future projects and assisting in any Inservice needs as required
Line Management
- Support the recruitment and growth of the team in line with the
- Train, coach, mentor and develop team members to upskill them appropriately and to develop their capability
- Proactively manage and support all team members in line with company policies
Common Responsibilities
- Maintain up to date knowledge of internal operational procedures and policies and comply with the requirements
- Work collaboratively with all team members
- Participate fully in company-wide initiatives
- Undertake other duties as may reasonably be requested by management
Candidate Profile
Education and Background
- Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or naval architect discipline, with strong commercial experience in project management, engineering, and management discipline (required).
- Proven leader with formal project management certification
- Ship building, equipment and system integration, either from the Owners side or specialist sub-supply industry marine/shipping experience (essential)
Knowledge and Experience
- 10+ years’ proven leadership experience
- Comprehensive commercial and contractual experience
- Experienced Line and matrix manager
- Client-facing experience with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels.
- Solid project and programme management experience
- Extensive experience of delivering complex marine equipment in Asia, utilising an international supply chain
- Experience of working with design houses and naval architects to deliver structural integration solutions for commercial vessels
- Experience of working with European and Asian Classification societies for approvals of innovative technology installations
- Strong working network in the shipping and maritime industry
- Proven experience of delivering projects in Chinese and/or Asian shipyards is desirable
