Alexander Daniels are working with a growing company based in North Warwickshire who are looking to recruit for a Commercial Finance Manager, reporting directly to the Finance Director.

This is an office based position with some flexibility.

The role is responsible for providing financial reporting, analysis, forecasting, and business partnering support across a construction focused organisation.

You will play a key role in supporting operational and strategic decision making by providing timely and accurate financial information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Accounting
  • Partner with commercial and operational teams to monitor project performance and profitability.
  • Support the preparation and review of project cost and value reporting.
  • Develop an understanding of contract terms and payment mechanisms to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Work closely with project managers and commercial teams to support project valuations and final account processes.
  • Manage revenue recognition and monthly work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
  • Produce project working capital and cash flow reporting.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets and forecasts, providing detailed variance analysis and recommendations.
  • Financial Accounting
  • Maintain records relating to asset financing and lease agreements.
  • Prepare monthly WIP schedules and supporting reconciliations.
  • Take ownership of balance sheet reconciliations and trial balance integrity.
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Support the development of annual budgets in collaboration with departmental managers.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Analyse business trends and key performance drivers to support decision-making.
  • Maintain rolling financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Support capital expenditure evaluations and investment decisions.
  • Assist with the maintenance of cost models and operational costing assumptions.
  • Reporting and Business Analysis
  • Produce monthly management information, KPI reporting, and flash reports for senior management.
  • Support the Finance Director with financial modelling, scenario analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Assist with year-end audits and respond to auditor queries.
  • Present financial information to operational and non-financial stakeholders in a clear and meaningful manner.
  • Provide ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, reporting processes, and business performance.
  • Support wider finance team responsibilities and provide cover during periods of absence.
  • Contribute to the development of systems, reporting tools, and process improvements.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the level of the role.

Essential

  • Qualified or Part-qualified accountant actively studying CIMA/ACCA/ACA
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using financial and accounting systems.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a management accounting or finance business partnering role.
  • Experience within the construction, engineering, infrastructure, or project-based sectors.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting and work-in-progress accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing management accounts, forecasts, and financial analysis.
