We’re working with a well-established and fast-growing group within the UK lift and building services sector to recruit a Credit Control Team Leader based at their Dudley headquarters. This is a hands‑on leadership role, sitting within the credit control department and reporting directly to the Head of Credit Control. You’ll lead the day‑to‑day credit control operation, take ownership of the most complex debtor accounts personally, and work cross‑functionally with branch leads and the wider finance team to drive down aged debt and improve cash flow across the business. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Leading, coaching, and developing the credit control team to hit monthly collection targets
- Acting as first point of escalation for complex or sensitive debtor accounts – personally owning resolutions
- Managing the full credit control cycle across multiple group entities, from invoice to collection
- Proactively chasing outstanding debt via telephone, email, and letter in line with agreed processes
- Monitoring aged debt and taking appropriate action on overdue accounts in a timely manner
- Negotiating payment plans with customers, balancing recovery with relationship management
- Working closely with branch leads to resolve invoice queries and ensure billing accuracy
- Collaborating with the customer complaints and retention function on accounts where financial and service disputes overlap
- Producing aged debt reports and team performance dashboards for the Head of Credit Control and senior leadership
- Identifying trends and making recommendations to improve credit control processes as the group grows
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
- Proven credit control experience with exposure to leading or supervising others
- Strong track record of reducing aged debt and improving DSO in a B2B environment
- Confident communicator – assertive with customers while maintaining positive relationships
- Highly organised with the ability to manage a high-volume ledger
- Commercially minded with good systems and Excel skills
- Collaborative – comfortable working cross-functionally
Desirable:
- Experience in a multi‑site or group structure
- Track record of improving credit control processes
- CICM qualification (or working towards)
