The Financial Accounting Manager is accountable for the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the organisation’s financial records and statutory reporting, and for the effective operation of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. This role ensures that month-end is closed cleanly and on time, providing a reliable actuals baseline for management reporting and financial planning.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own the month-end close and production of the final trial balance.
  • Maintain balance sheet integrity and strong financial controls.
  • Lead preparation of statutory accounts and audit.
  • Own accounting policies and technical accounting compliance.

Transactional Finance

  • Lead and oversee AP and AR teams.
  • Ensure timely supplier payments, income processing and credit control.
  • Maintain robust controls over transactional processes.

Interfaces with

  • Management Accounting: provides final, agreed actuals.
  • FP&A: provides actuals baseline for forecasting and modelling.

This role does not produce management accounts commentary, lead budgets, forecasts or scenario planning, or business partner with services on performance.

About You

You are a technically strong and detail-oriented finance professional with experience in financial accounting within a complex, multi-entity environment. You bring a solid understanding of statutory reporting, audit processes, and financial controls, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency across the group. Comfortable working in a regulated environment, you have experience preparing consolidated accounts, managing month-end and year-end processes, and supporting external audits. You understand the importance of stewardship of charitable or public funds and take pride in maintaining high standards of financial integrity and governance. You are proactive and collaborative, building effective relationships with operational colleagues and supporting the Head of Finance, Analysis & Reporting with timely, reliable financial information.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Strong experience preparing statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102).
  • Experience in a multi-entity or group structure, including preparation of consolidated accounts.
  • Proven track record of managing month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Experience coordinating and supporting external audits.
  • Excellent technical skills in financial reporting, reconciliations, balance sheet control and leading Accounts payable / receivable functions.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience in not-for-profit, health or social care environments.
  • Experience improving financial processes, systems implementation, or automation.
  • Experience supporting treasury management and cashflow forecasting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent).
  • Strong grounding in accounting standards.
  • Additional certifications in data analytics, systems, or transformation.
