About Us
At Alexander Battery Technologies (ABT), we design and manufacture custom battery packs for some of the world’s most demanding applications — from drones and robotics to off-road vehicles, safety equipment, and power tools. We’re expanding fast across the UK, Europe, and North America, and we’re investing in the next generation of high-voltage systems, functional safety design, and end-to-end battery innovation.
We’re looking for someone to take the lead on new product development and help drive our hardware team into the future.
Job Summary
This isn’t a back-office design role. It’s a hands-on, lead-from-the-front position where you’ll:
- Define customer requirements (sometimes from scratch)
- Own the full design flow in Altium 365
- Build, test, iterate and validate with safety and quality in mind
- Research and advise on regulatory compliance across global markets
- Deliver new hardware products into production
You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and project leads. You’ll be trusted to make design decisions — and expected to drive projects forward.
Duties
- Lead hardware development from requirements through to production
- Collaborate with the project engineer to define scope, timelines and delivery plans
- Make robust component choices, design PCBs in Altium 365, and oversee prototyping and test
- Conduct hazard and risk analysis, support FMEA and DFMEA as needed
- Ensure compliance with IEC 62619, UN38.3, CE, and IEC 61508
- Contribute to functional safety efforts in upcoming high-voltage battery platforms
- Occasionally support customer discussions or on-site visits
- Maintain a zero-compromise attitude on safety, traceability, and quality
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years in electronics hardware design and NPI
- Proven experience taking products from concept to production
- Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems and/or battery applications
- Solid understanding of functional safety principles (SIL preferred)
- Experience working with international regulations and compliance
- Proficiency in Altium 365 and PCB development best practices
- Confident communicator, methodical problem-solver, and self-starter
- Ability to lead by example, own your work, and hit delivery targets
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means owning hardware design projects end-to-end, driving them into production, and setting the bar for quality and accountability. It’s not a support role — it’s a lead-from-the-front role.
A Word from Our CEO
“We don’t need someone to just spec parts and hand off designs. We need a hands-on problem solver who owns the product from idea to build — someone who’s hungry to lead, not afraid to fail forward, and cares deeply about safety, quality, and getting things right for the customer.”
Mark Rutherford, CEO at Alexander Battery Technologies
