Working Hours

37.5 hours a week - 08:30-17:00 Monday-Thursday and 08:30-14:00 Friday

About the Role

The Quality Engineer’s main role is to support the Senior Quality Engineer and the wider Quality function in the day-to-day implementation and operation of the Quality Management System (QMS).

To contribute to the achievement of Quality Business Strategy and wider Business Strategy targets through hands-on quality assurance, inspection and continuous improvement activity.

With more than 40 years of battery manufacturing experience, our Quality team plays an important role in maintaining high standards, driving continuous improvement and supporting new customer programmes.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, maintenance and day-to-day operation of the business’ Quality Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards within own area of work.
  • Carry out in-process, goods-in and final inspections, and review supplier quality documentation as required.
  • Support cross functional teams and projects to improve product quality and reduce risk to product.
  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques (e. g. 5 Why, fishbone, 8D) to investigate non-conformances and support continuous improvement of the QMS.
  • Liaise with other departments including Production, Engineering, NPD and Finance on day-to-day quality matters.
  • Support internal and third-party audits, including ISO 9001, and help track corrective actions through to closure.
  • Provide day-to-day quality guidance to Quality Technicians and production teams on the shop floor.
  • Escalate quality risks and recurring issues to the Senior Quality Engineer in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours

Minimum Professional Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or related discipline), or relevant practical experience.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt, or working towards (desirable).
  • Awareness of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements (desirable).
  • Experience working with plastics manufacturing or plastic component quality control (desirable).
  • Familiarity with AI-based tools for quality applications (e. g. data analysis, defect trend spotting, report writing or process documentation), with a willingness to adopt new digital and AI-enabled ways of working (desirable).
