Alexander Barnes is leading the search for a Group Head of Fraud Product for one of the fastest growing FinTechs globally. This hire will own fraud prevention strategy end-to-end and build the systems, controls, and product experiences that stop fraud before it happens.

Purpose of the role

  • Own fraud prevention across the full customer and transaction lifecycle.
  • From early signal detection through to real-time intervention, decisioning, and continuous optimisation.
  • Translate fraud intelligence into scalable product, model, and control improvements across:
    • Consumer fraud
    • Merchant fraud
    • Account takeover and network activity

This is a product leadership role. Not investigations. Not operations. Not process ownership.

Key responsibilities

  • Fraud product ownership: Own the fraud domain across risk, cost, speed, and customer experience.
  • Balance loss prevention with conversion, UX, and operational efficiency.
  • End-to-end prevention strategy: Design and scale fraud controls across onboarding, authentication, payments, and account lifecycle.
  • Move detection upstream. Reduce reliance on downstream intervention.
  • Detection and intervention systems: Own rules, signals, and model-driven detection across transactions, sessions, and behaviours.
  • Drive real-time decisioning across product flows.
  • Product and engineering leadership: Work with engineering, data science, design, and operations to build and ship fraud prevention systems.
  • Embed controls directly into product architecture.
  • Data and model optimisation: Partner with data science to improve model performance across precision, recall, and latency.
  • Define feature strategy using behavioural, device, and network data.
  • Fraud intelligence integration: Leverage threat intelligence and emerging typologies to continuously evolve detection systems.
  • Turn attack patterns into scalable controls.
  • Customer experience and friction design: Design proportional interventions that reduce fraud without breaking the customer journey.
  • Own trade-offs between security, speed, and convenience.
  • Operational efficiency through automation: Reduce manual handling by building automated prevention and decisioning systems.
  • Decouple human intervention from core fraud controls wherever possible.
  • Technical depth and standards: Set the bar for how fraud prevention is built.
  • Structured thinking, strong product judgment, and clear ownership of outcomes.

Ideal candidates will bring

  • Strong product leadership experience in fraud, risk, identity, or trust & safety within fintech, banking, or large-scale platforms.
  • Track record of building and scaling fraud prevention systems, not just managing outcomes.
  • Experience owning KPIs across fraud loss, customer experience, and operational cost.
  • Deep understanding of fraud typologies including scams, mule networks, account takeover, and coordinated attacks.
  • Experience working closely with engineering and data teams to ship production-grade detection systems.
  • Strong grasp of how detection works in practice: rules engines, feature design, model limitations, and real-time decisioning.
  • Ability to operate across product, data, and risk with full ownership of the domain.
  • Experience designing controls across onboarding, authentication, and transaction flows.
  • Bias toward building scalable systems over manual processes.
  • Comfortable making decisions under uncertainty with incomplete data.
