ALEXANDER ASSOCIATES are partnering with a sector-leading organisation developing next-generation space technologies and mission-critical systems. As part of their continued expansion, they are seeking a highly capable Technical Author to support the creation, maintenance, and governance of engineering documentation across space programmes. This role is central to ensuring that technical information is accurately captured, structured, and communicated throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, structure, and maintain high-fidelity technical documentation including user manuals, interface control documents, technical data sheets, and engineering reports.
- Contribute to the drafting and refinement of grant proposals and technical bid documentation.
- Interpret detailed engineering specifications, schematics, and system architectures, translating these into clear and accessible documentation for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
- Plan and manage documentation deliverables, ensuring alignment with project milestones, engineering reviews, and formal gate processes.
- Apply systems engineering methodologies to support document configuration control, version management, and traceability across project phases.
- Support internal documentation governance by mentoring engineering staff, delivering guidance on best practices, and upholding documentation standards.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or similar).
- Proven experience producing technical documentation in an engineering or space environment.
- Strong working knowledge of systems engineering documentation processes, lifecycle models, and configuration management principles.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation standards (e.g., ISO, ECSS, DO-178C/DO-254 frameworks, or equivalent).
- Ability to conduct gap analyses on existing documentation sets to support continuous improvement of document structures and engineering governance.
- Excellent organisational and project-planning skills, with the capability to manage multiple documentation streams.
