An established UK infrastructure contractor is seeking a Design Manager to join its pre-construction team. This role plays a key part in shaping project delivery strategies, managing design coordination, and ensuring robust planning ahead of site mobilisation.
The Opportunity
You’ll lead the integration of design, commercial, and operational inputs during pre-construction, helping to develop cost-effective, deliverable solutions across civil and MEICA elements. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll ensure projects are well-defined, de-risked, and positioned for successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage design coordination across pre-construction, procurement, and delivery teams
- Develop and oversee delivery plans, programmes, and procurement strategies
- Lead the design process to ensure quality, compliance, and timely outputs
- Act as the key interface between client, design teams, and supply chain
- Drive value through early contractor involvement and effective procurement planning
- Monitor and manage design change, risk, and technical queries
- Support seamless transition from pre-construction to project delivery
About You
- Background in civil engineering or a related discipline (HNC/HND minimum; degree preferred)
- Strong experience in design and project delivery, ideally within infrastructure or water sectors
- Commercial awareness and experience managing supply chain partners
- Confident communicator with strong coordination and leadership skills
- Able to manage multiple stakeholders and work to tight deadlines
