We are currently supporting a specialist engineering consultancy within the UK water sector in the search for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing project delivery team on a contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects as part of a highly experienced multidisciplinary team. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining office presence in Warrington with remote working flexibility.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering mechanical design solutions across a range of water and wastewater treatment projects, from concept and feasibility stages through to detailed design and construction support. You will work closely with process, civil, electrical and project management teams to ensure designs are delivered to programme, budget and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce mechanical designs for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Develop design calculations, technical specifications, schedules and reports.
  • Prepare and review mechanical equipment selections, including pumps, pipework systems, valves, tanks and associated treatment equipment.
  • Generate and review mechanical design documentation, drawings and engineering deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and multidisciplinary coordination meetings.
  • Provide technical support throughout project delivery, including construction and commissioning phases where required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, client specifications and health & safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the water and wastewater sector.
  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Experience delivering projects for UK water utility clients and/or major frameworks.
  • Ability to produce and review mechanical calculations, specifications and design documentation.
  • Familiarity with relevant design standards and regulations within the water industry.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous.
