We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of a T1 contractor, supporting the delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects within the Water AMP 8 programme. The role will involve supporting the commercial management of a large project or a portfolio of smaller schemes, working closely with project teams, clients and supply chain partners to achieve strong financial and contractual outcomes.
You will assist in the day‑to‑day commercial management of projects from procurement through to final account, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, supporting cost control, managing change and contributing to positive working relationships across the project team.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the commercial administration, reporting and performance of assigned projects
- Promote and maintain a safe and compliant working environment
- Prepare and manage subcontract documentation, including terms, conditions, pricing and programmes
- Support the management of subcontract works packages, including interim valuations, payments and change control
- Assist with contract administration in line with the form of contract, including issuing commercial notices as required
- Support the management of change, including the preparation of compensation event quotations and variations
- Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment to the client
- Assist in producing monthly commercial reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
- Maintain accurate cost plans, forecasts and records of liabilities
- Identify and escalate commercial risks and opportunities
- Work closely with operational, engineering and design teams to ensure accurate site records and effective cost control
- Attend and contribute to progress, commercial and supply chain meetings
- Provide commercial and contractual support to estimating and pre‑construction teams when required
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
- Professional qualification or working towards membership of RICS or CIOB
- CSCS card as appropriate to role
- Proven experience within the UK water industry
- Working knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly NEC
- Experience managing or supporting subcontractor valuations, variations and final accounts
- Good commercial awareness with an understanding of cost, cashflow and risk management
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Competent IT skills, including Excel and commercial or cost management systems
- A proactive, well‑organised and professional approach with the ability to manage competing priorities
