Alemara is a London-based structural engineering consultancy working across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. Our team includes chartered engineers from some of the UK's leading firms. We work on everything from period property refurbishments and loft conversions to large-scale infrastructure (our team has contributed to HS2 and Hinkley Point C). We partner closely with architects, contractors, and building control across all London boroughs.
We’re looking for a structural engineer to join us right away. This is a hands-on role for someone who’s done their time in residential engineering, knows their way around a Victorian terrace, and is ready to run their own projects start to finish.
What you’ll do:- Carry out structural surveys and inspections across London, mostly residential, occasionally light commercial.
- Write clear, well-presented reports.
- Produce design calculations and drawings for loft conversions, rear and side extensions, basement works, and internal alterations.
- Liaise directly with homeowners, architects, contractors, building surveyors, and Building Control.
- Attend site visits, respond to on-site queries, and issue revisions where needed.
- Manage your own caseload of live projects, with support from the wider team.
- 3-5 years of experience in residential structural engineering in the UK, ideally London.
- IStructE membership (chartered, associate, or working towards).
- Confident with timber, steel, and masonry design for residential alterations and extensions.
- Working knowledge of Tekla Tedds and AutoCAD or Revit for drawings.
- Based in London and able to commute site to site daily across Greater London.
- Easygoing, warm, and able to explain structural decisions to people who don’t speak engineering.
- Available to start immediately or with short notice.
- Salary £40,000-£60,000 depending on experience.
- A varied residential caseload.
- Direct client work and project ownership from day one.
- Support from a senior engineer for technical sign-off where needed.
- A firm that’s growing, with a strong pipeline.
- The autonomy to organise your own week as long as the work goes out on time.
- Genuine flexibility on working pattern once you’re settled in.
