Setting: Small Residential Care Home for the Elderly (19 Residents)

Hours: 30 hours per week

Shift Pattern: 8am to 2pm, Week days

We are looking for a Cook to join our friendly team at our small, welcoming residential care home in Crowborough. With just 19 residents, we offer a home-from-home environment where fresh, nutritious, and homely food is an important part of our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare fresh, home-cooked lunches daily, catering to a range of dietary needs.
  • Provide a selection of breakfast options, including cereals, toast, and cooked breakfasts if requested.
  • Work with the manager to plan lunch menus that are varied, seasonal, and cater for all residents' dietary requirements, preferences, and cultural needs.
  • Prepare soup and sandwiches for supper.
  • Take responsibility for ordering food and managing stock, ensuring minimal food waste.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen, following food safety standards at all times.
  • Complete all opening and closing kitchen paperwork as required.
  • Wash up all cutlery, dishes, and utensils used throughout your shift.
  • Prepare the morning tea trolley at 10am, ready for carers to serve to residents.
  • Work closely with care staff to ensure meals are served in a friendly and person-centred way.
About You:
  • Experience working as a cook in a care home, school, café, or similar setting is preferred.
  • A passion for cooking fresh food and providing nourishing meals for elderly residents.
  • Knowledge of special diets (e.g., soft diets, diabetic-friendly meals, low-salt options).
  • Must hold the minimum food safety and hygiene certificates required to work in a professional kitchen (Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent).
  • Understanding of food safety standards and kitchen hygiene.
  • Friendly, flexible, and organised, with good time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of the kitchen.
