Technical Design Manager – Solar Package: £40,000 – £45,000 salary Monday to Friday (office based role) 35-hour week Alecto Recruitment are partnering with a leading renewable energy company based in Kent who are now looking to appoint a Senior Solar Design Engineer / Team Manager. The Role: As Solar Design Team Manager, you will lead a team of estimators and designers in delivering high-quality solar PV system designs, whilst also designing systems for residential and commercial projects ranging from 4kW to 500kW in size. The role combines technical expertise, team leadership, and project oversight to ensure designs are efficient, compliant, and aligned with company goals, whilst acting as a bridge between the technical team, project managers, and clients. Responsibilities: Manage and mentor a team of 6 including design engineers and estimators. Oversee and design solar PV systems for residential, commercial, and utility-scale projects, including roof mount and ground mount systems. Review and approve designs, schematics, and layouts of solar PV systems ensuring compliance with project requirements, standards, and regulations. Collaborate with project managers to align design deliverables with project timelines and budgets. Provide technical guidance during the project lifecycle, from initial concept to installation and commissioning. Ensure all designs meet industry standards, local regulations, and health & safety requirements. Act as the primary point of contact for technical queries from clients, suppliers, and internal teams. Key Competencies Strong technical knowledge of domestic and commercial solar PV systems, including design principles, components, and grid integration. Strong knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and PV*SOL 5+ years of experience in solar PV system design and engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role with direct reports. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., IEC, NEC, BS EN).
