About the Client

Our client is a premium commercial audio-visual solutions provider that partners with high-end corporate, hospitality and commercial clients. They specialise in delivering bespoke AV systems, integration, rentals and support. Their design philosophy goes beyond mere functionality - systems are created to perform exceptionally and to complement spaces aesthetically. Their offering spans consultancy, full install and commissioning, ongoing support and rental of projection, video-walls and screen systems. As they continue to grow their commercial AV division, they are seeking a top-tier Senior Lead AV Engineer to drive excellence, lead team delivery and set the technical standard.

Role Overview

You will act as the senior technical lead within the AV engineering team, responsible for end-to-end technical delivery of major commercial AV installations. You will guide design implementation, oversee installation and commissioning, mentor and manage junior engineers and subcontractors, and ensure the highest standards of system performance, reliability and aesthetics. You will also be the go-to expert for complex integration tasks, programming, systems troubleshooting and client liaison on technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the technical delivery of commercial AV projects from design hand-over through installation, commissioning and hand-off.
  • Act as the senior engineer on projects: define technical approach, ensure specification compliance, oversee system integration, pre-commission testing and final commissioning.
  • Mentor, coach and provide leadership to AV engineers and subcontractors; set standards, best practice and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure systems reflect the client's philosophy of delivering "technological excellence with aesthetic appeal" and "future-proof" designs.
  • Work closely with the project management, design, sales and support teams to ensure successful project outcomes - on time, within budget and to specification.
  • Engage in complex programming, integration and configuration tasks (control systems, video walls, conferencing systems, immersive AV) and troubleshoot at senior level.
  • Carry out site surveys, risk assessments, test plans and commissioning protocols; ensure documentation, O&M manuals and client training are completed.
  • Maintain and enforce quality assurance, H&S standards, and ensure all work complies with company and industry regulations.
  • Provide senior level support and escalation for existing installed systems: diagnose faults, propose upgrades and remedial works.
  • Stay up to date with emerging AV technologies and industry best practice and play a key role in driving technical innovation within the team.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience (typically 8-12 years or more) in commercial AV engineering, working on large installations (conference suites, boardrooms, multi-zone video walls, large scale integration).
  • Strong leadership experience: direct mentoring/management of junior engineers, responsibility for technical delivery of multiple projects.
  • Deep technical expertise in AV systems: design, integration, commissioning, programming control systems, video walls, projection, large display arrays, networked AV, conferencing systems.
  • Excellent fault-finding and troubleshooting skills; ability to resolve senior-level technical issues under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery: working with PMs, designers, clients, subcontractors; delivering to budget, schedule and specification.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to present to clients, lead team meetings, write handover documentation and produce clear technical reports.
  • A mindset that blends performance, aesthetics and future-proofing - aligning with the client's emphasis on systems that "not only perform exceptionally but also complement your space aesthetically".
  • Clean driving licence and willingness to travel nationally to project sites as required.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Formal AV / systems engineering qualification (or equivalent track record).
  • Certifications or training in major AV/control brands, networked AV systems (e.g., Dante, Crestron, Extron, Barco, Christie).
  • Experience in rental systems as well as fixed installs. The client offers rentals of projection/video-walls/screens.
  • Experience in combining AV with other systems (lighting, digital signage, interactive collaboration).
  • Passion for emerging tech, interest in innovation within AV and ability to bring fresh solutions.

What the Client Offers

  • Competitive salary up to £50,000 pa for the right candidate.
  • Opportunity to lead a high-performing team within a growing, premium AV business.
  • Exposure to high-profile commercial projects and cutting-edge AV systems.
  • Structured career progression and genuine technical leadership role.
  • Travel and expense support for national work, company vehicle or mileage scheme, depending on role.
  • Supportive company culture focused on quality, innovation and ongoing professional development.
