Keep Plants Running? Make Them Better? Fix What Others Can't?

Location: Edmonton, London | Salary: ÂŁ50,720 + Overtime | Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off Shifts

Most engineers get hired to maintain machines. We're hiring you to master them. If you come from production or processing plants—manufacturing, food, pharma, chemicals, packaging, energy, utilities, heavy industry, or any environment where mechanical uptime is everything—this could be the role that finally matches your talent.

You Already Know the Pressure

When equipment fails, the clock is ticking. Downtime costs real money. Quick fixes aren’t enough—root cause matters. Reliability isn’t a metric… it’s survival.

Now imagine a job where:

  • Your skill set is the core of the operation.
  • Your improvements become the new standard.
  • Your ideas increase uptime for a plant that powers London’s waste infrastructure.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

  • Maximising plant availability
  • Owning PPMs, breakdowns, mechanical repairs
  • Diagnosing running and process faults
  • Engineering long-term fixes, not temporary patches
  • Improving conveyors, motors, pumps, pneumatics, hydraulics, rotating equipment, and industrial mechanical systems
  • Working with external contractors when needed
  • Driving compliance, safety and H&S best practice

In short: You’ll fix it. Then improve it. Then make sure it never fails the same way again.

Who This Advert Is For

  • Mechanical engineers who thrive in live production or processing environments
  • People who understand that PPMs + engineered solutions = uptime
  • Engineers who enjoy fault diagnosis, mechanical reliability, and process optimisation
  • Those who want responsibility, respect, and career momentum

You might currently hold titles like: Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Shift Engineer, Maintenance Technician, Plant Engineer, Multiskilled Maintenance (mechanical bias), or similar.

If your world is equipment, production, reliability, and mechanical engineering—you qualify.

What You Get

  • ÂŁ50,720 per year + overtime available
  • Full-time, 12-hour shifts
  • 4 days on / 4 days off (2 days, 2 nights, 12-hour shifts)
  • Career development, coaching, and training
  • Company pension
  • Medical & dental schemes
  • Retail, leisure, travel, holiday discounts
  • Employee discounts
  • Cycle-to-work / bike scheme

Work that genuinely impacts millions of people and helps change the way the UK thinks about waste.

Proof You’re Joining the Right Team

  • 11,500+ employees nationwide
  • UK’s #1 business waste management company
  • A culture that values diversity, inclusion, fresh thinking, and engineering excellence
  • A mission turning waste into sustainable power, recycling, and infrastructure

This isn’t another plant job. This is engineering at national scale, with real mechanical complexity and real career upside.
