Build a Secure Career While Making a Real Environmental Impact
If youâre looking for long-term job security, greater responsibility, and the opportunity to make a visible difference to communities and the environment, this role offers all three.
Youâll be joining a market-leading organisation within the UK waste and recycling sector, trusted by local authorities nationwide and operating at significant scale. This is a stable, established business with the resources, contracts, and long-term outlook to support a lasting and rewarding career.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Security you can depend on: This position sits within a long-term local authority contract managed by a highly established industry leader. The organisation's reputation, scale, and public sector partnerships provide stability in a growing and essential sector.
- A bigger organisation means bigger career prospects: As part of a large national business, youâll gain exposure to complex, high-value contracts and have access to structured development, progression opportunities, and internal career mobility not available in smaller operators.
- Ownership and influence: This is not a support role. Youâll own a high-profile recycling and waste handling contract, leading both strategic and operational performance and acting as the primary contact for senior local authority stakeholders.
- Work with genuine social value: Your work will directly impact recycling rates, environmental compliance, and sustainable outcomes across West Sussex - benefiting local communities every day.
What Youâll Be Responsible For
- Full ownership of the West Sussex County Council Recycling & Waste Handling Contract and MRMC Contract
- Managing contractual relationships across strategic, operational, and compliance areas to maximise recycling performance
- Acting as the main point of contact for council contract managers on all operational and contractual matters
- Preparing and submitting monthly performance and compliance reports
- Building and maintaining a strong, collaborative partnership with council stakeholders
- Ensuring all contractual obligations and timescales are met or exceeded
- Maintaining accurate contractual records, correspondence, and change notices
- Leading the sourcing of outlets for recyclable materials not managed by internal commodities teams
What Weâre Looking For
- Degree-level education, ideally in an environmental or related discipline
- IOSH Safety for Managers with strong knowledge of environmental and health & safety legislation
- Experience managing PFI or similar complex contracts, ideally within a local authority environment
- Proven leadership ability with experience motivating and engaging operational teams
- Strong data and reporting capability; BI system experience is desirable
What Youâll Get in Return
- Competitive salary
- Life assurance
- Generous pension scheme
- Ongoing training, development, and coaching to support long-term career growth
- Retail, leisure, holiday, and travel discounts
- Bike to work scheme
- The opportunity to build a secure, meaningful career within a respected and growing organisation
Our Commitment
This organisation is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, recognising that different perspectives strengthen teams, improve decisionâmaking, and deliver better outcomes for customers, colleagues, and communities.
If youâre ready to take ownership, build long-term security, and contribute to work that truly matters - this role is worth your attention.
