You’ve spent years as a Senior Engineer, Plant Mechanic, or Lead Fitter, honing your skills on telehandlers, excavators, and heavy plant. Now it’s time to move from hands-on work to leading a high-performing team of engineers - shaping workshop operations and driving results.
Alecto Recruitment is partnering with one of the UK’s leading plant hire companies in Bedford to recruit an experienced Workshop Manager. This role is ideal for Service Engineers, Plant Engineers, Senior Fitters, and Lead Engineers who are ready to step up, take ownership, and manage a skilled team.
What’s On Offer
- Up to £50,000 basic salary + car allowance
- 45 hours a week (Mon - Fri)
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays + your birthday off

Your Role
- Lead, manage, and supervise a team of fitters, engineers, and service technicians
- Plan and oversee all workshop operations, including repairs, maintenance, and workflow scheduling
- Mentor and train engineers, sharing your expertise to build a stronger, more skilled team
- Monitor performance, ensure safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement
- Take full ownership of workshop efficiency, productivity, and success
Who You Are
- Experienced as a Plant Mechanic, Senior Engineer, Lead Fitter, or Service Engineer
- Proven ability to manage, supervise, or mentor a team of engineers
- Strong technical knowledge of plant machinery, hydraulics, and mechanical systems
- Organised, proactive, and confident making operational decisions
- Full UK driving licence (max 3 points)
