Site: Single static site – major technology company HQ, City of London, EC

Reporting To: Site Manager / Chief Engineer

Contract Type: Permanent, Full–Time

Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week (core hours 08:00–17:00)

The Site & The Role

This is a prestigious static–site position embedded within the facilities management team at the London headquarters of a globally recognised technology business. The building is a modern, high–specification commercial office spanning multiple floors in the City of London, serving thousands of employees and requiring the highest standards of engineering operation, compliance, and service delivery. You will be a core member of the on–site engineering team, working Monday to Friday in a structured, professional environment that offers stability, variety, and genuine long–term progression. No two days are the same, from planned preventative maintenance to reactive fault–finding and project support, your electrical expertise will directly underpin the smooth operation of a world–class workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Systems Operation & Maintenance
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on all electrical building services, manufacturer specifications, and site–specific schedules
    • Operate, maintain, and fault–find on LV distribution systems, HV switchgear (where authorised), UPS systems, emergency lighting, and standby generators
    • Inspect, test, and maintain electrical distribution boards, panel schedules, MCBs, RCDs, and associated switchgear
    • Perform or oversee periodic electrical testing including EICRs, PAT testing, earth loop impedance testing, and thermographic surveys in conjunction with specialist contractors
    • Monitor and maintain building management system (BMS) set–points, alarms, and trends relating to electrical plant; escalate anomalies to the site manager
    • Manage and support the operation of the site's critical power infrastructure including UPS, PDUs, and generator load testing
  • Compliance, Safety & Documentation
    • Ensure all works are carried out in full compliance with current electrical regulations (BS th Edition), IEE Wiring Regulations, CDM, and site H&S policies
    • Issue, control, and manage permit–to–work (PTW) documentation for electrical isolation, hot works, confined space entry, and other notifiable activities
    • Maintain accurate and up–to–date engineering records, logbooks, asset registers, and maintenance management system (CAFM) entries
    • Support statutory and client compliance audits, completing corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) within agreed timescales
    • Participate in site risk assessments, toolbox talks, and method statement reviews
  • Contractor & Stakeholder Management
    • Manage specialist electrical, fire, and M&E contractors on–site ensuring safe systems of work, quality of delivery, and sign–off against scope
    • Act as the primary engineering point of contact for the client's facilities and workplace team during day–to–day operations
    • Liaise with the client's internal IT, AV, and security teams on low–voltage infrastructure works as required
    • Respond promptly to occupant–raised facilities requests via the helpdesk system, providing clear communication on status and resolution times

Person Specification & Essential Experience

  • City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent electrical inspection and testing qualification, or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation / Building Services Engineering
  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) current certification required
  • Proven experience working as an electrically biased building services or maintenance engineer in a commercial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of LV distribution systems, emergency lighting, UPS, and standby generation
  • Experience issuing and working under permit–to–work systems
  • Confident fault diagnosis and problem–solving ability being able to work independently and under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with a corporate client environment
