We’re recruiting for an experienced Inert & Closed Site Supervisor to take responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of landfill sites in Cumbria. This isn’t a short‑term position or a stepping stone. Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (37.5 hours per week)

The Role

You’ll oversee the day‑to‑day operation of inert and closed landfill sites, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in full compliance with environmental permits and company procedures. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising landfill operations and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance
  • Managing contractors and coordinating site activities
  • Carrying out routine operational and environmental inspections
  • Monitoring landfill gas, leachate and other site infrastructure
  • Recording operational data and maintaining accurate site records
  • Conducting inductions for contractors and visitors
  • Liaising with regulators, contractors and customers
  • Supporting restoration works and ongoing environmental improvements
  • Promoting a strong health, safety and environmental culture across the site

About You

We’re keen to speak with people who already understand the waste management industry and have experience leading operational teams. You’ll ideally have:

  • Supervisory experience within the waste management, landfill, recycling or environmental sector
  • Experience overseeing contractors and day‑to‑day site operations
  • A solid understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of landfill operations, leachate, landfill gas or restoration activities would be an advantage
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach with the ability to work independently
