Transport Manager — Take Control, Drive Standards, and Lead a Team That Delivers Every Day
If you’re the kind of leader who thrives on structure, momentum, and making a depot run like a precision-engineered machine, this role has your name all over it.
We’re looking for a Transport Manager who can step into a fast-moving operation in Bishops Cleeve and immediately raise the bar.
You’ll be the engine behind safe, efficient, reliable waste-collection services — and the person who keeps teams motivated, vehicles compliant, and daily operations running without a hitch.
This is your chance to take real ownership, influence how the depot performs, and make a measurable impact every single day.
- What You’ll Take Charge Of
- Team Motivation — Support and energise depot teams so they deliver consistently high performance and outstanding service.
- Training & Development — Assist with inductions, probation reviews, coaching, and ongoing staff development.
- Performance & Conduct — Monitor attendance, behaviour, and output — and take action when standards slip.
- Communication Culture — Lead briefings and toolbox talks that keep everyone aligned, informed, and improving.
- Bonus Scheme Accuracy — Administer driver incentives fairly and precisely.
- Compliance & Driver Hours — Ensure driver hours are recorded and managed exactly as legislation requires.
- Safety Leadership — Identify incidents, training needs, and risks — and make sure they’re dealt with fast.
- Fleet Coordination — Work with Fleet/Workshop teams to keep vehicles safe, legal, and road-ready.
- End-of-Shift Debriefs — Review daily performance, resolve issues, and keep standards tight.
- Audit & Compliance Readiness — Maintain depot readiness for inspections, FORS requirements, and Operator Licence compliance.
- Wellbeing & Culture — Champion mental health, inclusion, and a supportive workplace.
- Project Support — Contribute to wider business goals through additional duties and improvement projects.
- Why This Role Stands Out
- A genuinely supportive, inclusive team
- A culture built around trust, autonomy, and high performance
- Real opportunities to grow your career
- A workplace where your ideas actually get listened to
What You Bring
- GCSE/NVQ or equivalent experience
- Operational leadership experience in waste, logistics, transport, or similar
- Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
- Solid IT and analytical ability (Microsoft Office + operational systems)
- Strong understanding of H&S, driver hours, and operator licensing
- Full UK driving licence (LGV Class 2 desirable)
- Good local geographical knowledge — or the ability to learn fast
