Description
About Us: At Alecto, we're on a mission to fix one of the UK's most broken consumer experiences: conveyancing - the legal process behind every property transaction. Today it’s slow, opaque, and failing. One in three property transactions fall through, complaints run 3.3x higher than any other legal sector. Many firms still rely on post and fax. We're building the UK's first AI-native law firm to change that. Backed by Firstminute Capital and a strong group of angel investors, we’re led by a founder who built and scaled Gen H, a fintech mortgage lender, to £1bn in annual lending and £5bn in financing. That hands‑on experience in regulated financial services gives us a clear path to disrupt a fragmented £2.5 billion market. Conveyancing is our starting point. Our ambition is a full‑service, AI‑first law firm with global reach.
How you’ll contribute: We're looking for a Staff or Senior Product Engineer to join as an early member of our engineering team. We're a small team of generalists with deep experience in startups and who care about craft. We move fast, ship often, and hold ourselves to a high bar. From day one, you’ll help shape the product’s direction and ship features to production within your first week. Requirements will be fuzzy - you’ll talk to users, form hypotheses, and iterate quickly to define what to build.
Key Responsibilities
- Have worked at early‑stage startups and driven product direction
- Think in terms of user problems, not just technical solutions
- Have scaled TypeScript projects
- Enjoy refining and customizing your AI workflow into the early hours
- Building AI agents or LLM‑powered systems that go beyond simple prompting.
Bonus points for:
- Academic or applied experience in machine learning, especially if you can bridge the gap between research and production.
Who thrives here: We'd love to talk to you if you're relentless about self‑improvement and hold yourself to incredibly high standards, sweating the details others overlook. You see problems as solvable and find opportunity in challenges, energising the people around you in the process. You own outcomes, fixing problems rather than waiting for someone else to, and want to be measured on your impact. You're low ego and self‑critical, open to feedback, and give honest feedback directly and kindly.
We're building with:
- A TypeScript monorepo, React, tRPC and Tailwind
- Inngest for background jobs and event‑driven workflows
- Deployed on Google Cloud Platform with Postgres
Benefits
- £100,000 - £150,000 depending on experience
- Meaningful early‑stage equity - you'll be an owner, not just an employee
- 5% employer pension contributions
- Comprehensive private medical cover including dental and optical
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Your choice in AI tooling
