An award-winning multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer to join its growing Sheffield team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware professional to lead complex site investigation and contaminated land projects while playing a key role in the continued growth of the geo-environmental and geotechnical team. The role offers a genuine pathway toward Technical Director / Director level within a supportive and well-established consultancy environment.
The Role
- Lead and manage a broad range of geo-environmental and contaminated land projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, infrastructure and regeneration.
- Oversee site investigations and remediation works, preparing and reviewing technical reports and risk assessments, managing project delivery and mentoring junior engineers within the team.
- Work closely with senior leadership while also supporting business development, client relationships and project growth across the wider Yorkshire region and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead geo-environmental and contaminated land projects from inception through to completion.
- Design, procure and supervise site investigations and remediation works.
- Prepare and review: Phase 1 and Phase 2 Reports, Remediation Strategies, Verification Reports, Quantitative Risk Assessments.
- Interpret factual and interpretative site investigation data.
- Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation.
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across the team.
- Mentor junior engineers and graduates.
- Support bids, tenders and wider business development activities.
- Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
What We're Looking For
- Degree qualified in Geology or related discipline.
- Significant UK consultancy experience within geo-environmental engineering / contaminated land.
- Strong understanding of UK contaminated land legislation and guidance.
- Experience managing projects and technical teams.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and strong client-facing ability.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Chartered status with the Geological Society, ICE or similar professional body.
