Principal Geotechnical Engineer Bristol or Cardiff Permanent | Full-Time | Hybrid working (3 days in office) An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a well-established multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong pipeline of civil and structural projects across the UK and overseas. My client has seen continued growth and is now looking for a Chartered (or Senior) Geotechnical Engineer to take a leading role in supporting planning and engineering teams on a diverse portfolio of work – from early-stage development and ground engineering assessments to detailed design. The Role You\’ll take responsibility for specifying, managing, and interpreting ground investigations, delivering geotechnical assessments, and developing design solutions for a variety of infrastructure and building projects. The work is varied – some commissions are standalone ground engineering projects, while others form part of wider civil and structural design schemes. Typical responsibilities include: Preparing and reviewing geotechnical reports and assessments Conducting proof-of-concept checks, slope stability, and settlement analyses Designing foundations, cuttings, embankments, and retaining structures Developing earthworks specifications and mitigation measures for legacy mining sites Contributing to Geotechnical Design Reports and feedback in line with CD622About You Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology with a postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering Chartered status (CEng or equivalent) Strong technical understanding of EC7 and UK design codes Proficient in geotechnical software (Rocscience and Geo5 preferred) Experience preparing drawings (ARC GIS and CAD desirable) Excellent communication and report-writing skills Confident managing client relationships and leading design delivery Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when requiredThis is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing consultancy where you\’ll have autonomy, technical variety, and a clear path for professional development within a collaborative team.
