About the Role
As a Senior Design Manager, you'll lead the design delivery on large-scale industrial projects, overseeing junior team members and reporting to the Head of Design. You'll play a key role in strategic design planning, risk management, and programme alignment across multiple project phases.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the full design process from tender to completion
- Provide technical guidance to internal teams and consultants
- Manage consultant appointments and monitor performance
- Chair design and technical meetings with all project stakeholders
- Ensure design intent aligns with client requirements and buildability
- Oversee statutory submissions and manage approval processes
- Lead the resolution of technical issues across the programme
- Mentor and support junior design managers where required
- Input into business development, bids, and early-stage planning
Requirements
- Strong background in design management at a senior level within a main contractor
- Proven experience leading large-scale industrial projects
- Deep understanding of construction methodology, buildability, and compliance
- Ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Flexible to work across office and project sites in London/Home Counties
