Quantity Surveyor - M&E

Full-Time No working from home possible
Aldwych Consulting

Quantity Surveyor (M&E) - Hertfordshire (near Hitchin)
Up to £75,000 + progression | Permanent

Ready to step up, or already leading from the front?
Want real ownership of projects - not just spreadsheets?
Looking for a role where your commercial decisions actually shape delivery?

An established M&E contractor is looking to strengthen their commercial team following an internal change. They're open-minded on level - whether you're an experienced QS who can run projects independently, or stepping into a QS role and want hands-on support from a strong Commercial Lead.

This is an urgent hire, so ideally you'll be available immediately or on short notice.

The role

  • Full lifecycle commercial management across projects
  • Office-based near Hitchin, with site visits across London / South East
  • Exposure to a mix of projects - giving you breadth, not repetition
  • Work closely with delivery teams and senior leadership

What we're looking for
We care less about sector background and more about solid QS fundamentals. M&E experience helps, but is not essential.
You'll be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of cost planning, budgeting and forecasting
  • Proven ability in valuations, variations and final accounts
  • Confidence managing subcontractor procurement and commercial negotiations
  • Experience with various contract forms (e.g. JCT / NEC) and how they work in practice
  • Ability to identify risk early and protect margin
  • Clear, structured reporting and commercial communication
  • Strong attention to detail combined with commercial instinct

Why consider this?

  • Genuine flexibility on level - the role will be shaped around you
  • Direct access to decision-makers - no layers, no politics
  • Opportunity to accelerate your career quickly
  • Up to £75,000 depending on experience
  • Long-term progression opportunity

If you're stuck in a role where you're either underused or unsupported, this is a chance to reset - and do it properly.
