A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Buyer to join a well-established civil engineering contractor with an excellent reputation for delivering infrastructure projects across the South East. This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy procurement team, playing a key role in sourcing materials, plant and services while supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects. The business has a strong pipeline of secured work and offers long-term career development within a collaborative environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you'll be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials, plant and services, helping to maximise value while maintaining quality and supplier performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain competitive quotations for construction materials, plant and services.
  • Raise purchase orders and monitor supplier performance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with supplier audits and maintain approved supplier records.
  • Liaise closely with estimating and operational teams throughout the procurement process.
  • Analyse supplier quotations and provide cost comparisons to support tender submissions.
  • Procure materials, plant and subcontract services in line with project requirements.
  • Monitor deliveries and expedite orders where required.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve procurement efficiencies.
  • Produce procurement reports and cost analysis.
  • Assist with material scheduling and purchasing strategies.
  • Provide support and cover for senior members of the procurement team when required.
  • Support the development of junior team members and apprentices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • Previous purchasing experience within the construction or civil engineering sector.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Experience analysing supplier quotations and managing procurement schedules.
  • Good understanding of construction materials and procurement processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using procurement or construction management software such as Procore or similar would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence.
