Relocation Opportunity
I'm working on behalf of a client-side organisation within the data centre sector that is looking to appoint an experienced Construction Health & Safety Manager to join the delivery team on a major hyperscale data centre development in Finland. This is a significant, technically complex construction programme with extensive MEP, electrical and mechanical infrastructure, and requires someone who has operated within demanding, high-risk construction environments where safety, quality and programme delivery are critical. This is a full-time, site-based position in Finland, and relocation support is available for the right candidate.
The Role
Working as part of the client-side project team, you will take a key role in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing are maintained throughout construction. You will work closely with the project leadership team, main contractors, specialist MEP contractors and other stakeholders to ensure safety requirements are embedded throughout the delivery of the project.
- Leading and overseeing construction health & safety activities across the project.
- Ensuring contractors and subcontractors comply with project H&S requirements, relevant legislation and agreed safety procedures.
- Monitoring high-risk construction activities, particularly those associated with complex MEP installations, electrical systems, commissioning and major plant.
- Undertaking regular site inspections, audits and safety reviews.
- Reviewing RAMS, construction methodologies and contractor safety documentation.
- Identifying potential risks and ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
- Monitoring contractor H&S performance and driving corrective actions where required.
- Supporting incident investigations, reporting and lessons learned.
- Working collaboratively with construction, engineering, commissioning and project management teams.
- Promoting a proactive safety culture across the project rather than simply policing compliance.
- Producing clear H&S reporting for senior project stakeholders and the wider client organisation.
About You
For this position, major data centre construction experience would be ideal. I'm particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have worked on hyperscale data centre projects and understand the complexities associated with delivering highly technical, MEP-intensive facilities.
You should ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Construction Health & Safety Manager on major construction projects.
- Hyperscale data centre construction experience - desirable.
- Additional experience across major industrial, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, energy or other technically complex projects would be highly advantageous.
- Strong understanding of MEP-intensive construction environments, including electrical and mechanical installation activities.
- Experience overseeing multiple contractors and specialist subcontractors on large-scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction health & safety legislation, procedures and best practice.
- Relevant professional H&S qualifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent internationally recognised qualifications.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to challenge unsafe practices while maintaining productive relationships with contractors and project teams.
- Experience working within a client-side, developer, consultancy or major contractor environment on complex construction programmes.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to join a client-side data centre organisation delivering a major hyperscale development and to play an important role within the on-site project team. The position offers exposure to one of the most technically demanding areas of construction, working alongside experienced professionals across construction, engineering, MEP and commissioning. For candidates currently based outside Finland, this is a relocation opportunity, with support available for the right individual.
Please note that due to the nature and seniority of the position, this role requires a full-time presence on site in Finland.
