An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established infrastructure and utilities contractor delivering essential projects across the UK. Working closely with the Commercial Manager and operational teams, you will take ownership of the commercial and contractual management of projects from inception through to completion. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in driving commercial performance, managing project costs, maximising profitability, and ensuring contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will be commercially astute, detail-oriented, and confident managing both financial and contractual aspects of multiple projects.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for controlling project costs, managing subcontractor accounts, administering contracts, and identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance. You will work collaboratively with operational teams and clients to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor project costs, including weekly profit and loss reporting
- Review contract documentation and provide commercial and contractual advice
- Monitor project progress and maintain accurate cash flow forecasts
- Produce and review Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), commercial forecasts, and project finance reports
- Manage subcontractor procurement, forecasting, and contractual agreements
- Prepare subcontract documentation, tender enquiries, and quotation assessments
- Negotiate subcontract terms and conditions
- Administer subcontract valuations, invoices, payments, and final accounts
- Lead the management of change control, risk management, and value engineering processes
- Track and manage project variations, compensation events, and contractual notices
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and client payment applications
- Negotiate and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors
- Attend client, progress, commercial, and risk review meetings
- Support tendering and pricing activities for future works
- Assist with cash recovery, forecasting, and credit control activities
- Provide commercial and contractual support to operational delivery teams
About You
We are looking for a commercially focused professional who can confidently manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual management principles
- Experience producing CVRs, forecasts, valuations, and final accounts
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing deadlines
- High level of commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Logical and analytical approach to decision making
Desirable
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- RICS accredited qualification or equivalent
- Previous experience within the utilities, infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction sectors
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts
