Freelance Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Enabling Works Project

I'm working with a leading civil engineering contractor who is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major enabling works project supporting a large-scale battery storage development in the South West. This is a long-term freelance opportunity on a technically challenging infrastructure scheme, offering the chance to play a key commercial role from an early stage of the project.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the commercial management of the project under an NEC4 contract, ensuring robust commercial processes are maintained throughout the lifecycle of the scheme. The client is looking for someone who is commercially astute, proactive, and confident managing all aspects of contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial management of an NEC4 contract.
  • Strong forecasting and cost reporting.
  • Administration and recovery of Compensation Events.
  • Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and contract compliance.
  • Programme review and commercial assessment.
  • Subcontract procurement, appointments and management.
  • Cost control, valuations and final accounts.
  • Working closely with the project delivery team to maximise commercial performance.

About You

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure.
  • Extensive NEC4 contract knowledge.
  • Strong background in forecasting and cost management.
  • Demonstrable experience managing Compensation Events from notification through to agreement.
  • Confident administering NEC contracts, including EWNs, CE processes and programme-related commercial matters.
  • Experience letting and managing subcontract packages.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
