I'm working with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint an
Engineering Technician (Roads) to join its Edinburgh team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced highways technician to work on a varied portfolio of road, infrastructure and energy schemes across the UK , producing detailed designs, drawings and 3D models while working alongside experienced engineers and project managers.
The business has a strong multidisciplinary offering across civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, transportation, planning and water, giving you the opportunity to work on technically varied projects and collaborate with specialists across the wider practice.
The Role
You'll be responsible for producing high-quality highway and infrastructure design information from concept through to detailed design and construction.
- Prepare highway and infrastructure drawings and 2D/3D models using
Auto CAD and Civil 3D , including surfaces, corridors, feature lines and cross-sections.
- Develop highway geometry, drainage and associated infrastructure designs in accordance with relevant standards, including
DMRB, Manual for Streets and Local Authority requirements .
- Contribute to federated 3D models and coordinated design workflows, supporting clash detection and improving constructability.
- Work closely with Engineers, Technicians and Project Managers to deliver coordinated designs, drawings, schedules and technical information to agreed programmes.
- Support quantities, take-offs, technical submissions, site inspections and responses to client or contractor comments where required.
- Provide technical guidance and support to more junior members of the team where appropriate.
What We're Looking For
- HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or a related qualification.
- Strong working knowledge of
Auto CAD and Civil 3D , with experience producing highway design drawings.
- Experience with highway geometry, drainage and ancillary infrastructure design.
- Good understanding of
DMRB, Manual for Streets and relevant highway design standards .
- Experience using software such as
Civil 3D, Info Drainage and PDS Signs/Lines would be highly relevant.
- Understanding of BIM, 3D modelling and coordinated design processes.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Eng Tech or working towards professional membership with ICE/CIHT would be advantageous.
