I'm working with a well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a

Technical Manager - Civil Engineer (Roads & Infrastructure) to join its Edinburgh team.

This is a senior technical and leadership position, offering the opportunity to take a key role in the delivery of major roads, infrastructure and development projects , while helping shape the technical direction and continued growth of the Edinburgh team.

The business operates across civil and structural engineering alongside geotechnical, environmental, transportation, planning, water and other specialist disciplines, providing a genuinely multidisciplinary environment and strong opportunities for collaboration.

The Role

You'll act as a senior technical authority within the Roads and Infrastructure team, overseeing design quality, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and supporting the successful delivery of projects.

  • Lead, coordinate and review civil engineering design across highways, drainage, earthworks and wider infrastructure , ensuring technically robust and compliant solutions.
  • Provide technical oversight on feasibility studies, assessments and detailed design, with strong knowledge of

DMRB, MCHW and relevant UK standards .

  • Coordinate inputs from geotechnical, environmental, structural, planning and transportation teams, working closely with Project Managers to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Undertake technical audits, design checks and risk reviews while promoting best practice across engineering, modelling and documentation.
  • Mentor and develop engineers within the team, helping to build technical capability and maintain a strong culture of professional development.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, contractors and statutory bodies, while contributing to bids, technical proposals and wider business development.
  • Support the commercial management of the team, including project budgets, financial reporting, resource planning and development of the existing client base.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in

Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Chartered Engineer status, ideally

CEng/MICE or equivalent.

  • Significant consultancy experience with strong technical responsibility across civil engineering projects.
  • Experience delivering roads, infrastructure or development schemes , ideally within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong knowledge of

DMRB, MCHW and UK design standards , alongside relevant statutory procedures and procurement processes.

  • Proven experience in technical leadership, design checking and managing multidisciplinary project inputs.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including experience with project budgets and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to deal directly with clients and project teams.
  • Full UK driving licence.
