An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant / Senior Highway Engineer to join a well-established multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering work across the construction, transportation, highways, and infrastructure sectors throughout the UK.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a Highway Engineer with at least 3 years' industry experience, looking to play a key role in a growing highways team delivering a wide range of urban realm, active travel, traffic and transport infrastructure schemes. You'll be involved in projects from initial feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and implementation, working on challenging and often high-profile schemes for both public and private sector clients.

The successful candidate will support and lead the development of detailed highway designs in urban environments, provide technical expertise to project teams, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the business. What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading and supporting the development of highway and streetscape designs in urban environments
  • Delivering schemes across active travel, public realm, traffic, and transportation projects
  • Producing detailed design packages using AutoCAD
  • Working on projects from feasibility stage through to implementation
  • Applying relevant design standards and guidance including DMRB, TfL streetscape guidance, LTN 1/20, LCDS and TSRGD
  • Managing and coordinating Statutory Undertaker plant diversion processes, from initial searches through to quotations and implementation
  • Preparing technical reports and documentation for clients and stakeholders
  • Collaborating closely with internal teams, clients, contractors, sub-consultants and stakeholders
  • Supporting project delivery in complex and fast-paced London environments
  • Contributing to project planning, coordination and the overall successful delivery of schemes

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A relevant degree in Civil Engineering (or similar), postgraduate qualification, or equivalent professional experience
  • At least 3 years of industry experience within highways / transport infrastructure design
  • Experience developing highway designs in line with: DMRB, TfL streetscape guidance, LTN 1/20, LCDS, TSRGD
  • Strong AutoCAD skills with the ability to produce high-quality drawings and design packages
  • Experience managing Statutory Undertaker diversion processes from searches through to implementation
  • Good report writing and written communication skills
  • A solid understanding of CDM 2015 requirements for Designers / Principal Designers
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients, colleagues, contractors, sub-consultants and stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to use initiative
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced project environment, particularly on challenging urban schemes

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous, but are not essential:

  • Experience using Gantt charts for project planning and progress tracking
  • Experience with project financial tracking and reporting
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • Ability to take a lead role in project delivery
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D
  • Experience collaborating with other disciplines, such as urban design
  • Knowledge of SuDS and raingarden design
  • Working towards Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or above with a relevant professional body
