Are you a Project Manager (or Site Agent) looking to join a major infrastructure project in Cumbria? This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager to get involved on a complex self-delivery scheme. A leading UK civil engineering contractor is seeking a Project Manager with a strong self-delivery background to take ownership of a major programme of works. This is a business known for delivering complex infrastructure projects through its own directly employed workforce, backed by strong engineering capability, disciplined planning and a culture built around accountability and delivery.

The company is growing fast, securing long-term frameworks and high-value civil engineering packages across infrastructure, energy, highways, water and complex structures. They invest heavily in their people, promote from within, and give Project Managers genuine authority to drive delivery rather than simply oversee it. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on contracting environment, understands the realities of site delivery, and brings structure, pace and clarity to multidisciplinary teams.

The Role

You will be the driver of the programme, ensuring works are planned logically, sequenced efficiently and delivered safely and to standard. Working closely with engineers, planners, commercial teams and site delivery leads, you'll maintain programme integrity, manage change, and keep the project aligned to cost, time and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, logic, sequencing and maintenance of the project programme using Primavera P6
  • Drive self-delivery teams and subcontractors to ensure coordinated, efficient execution
  • Produce and maintain high-quality documentation, reporting and project governance
  • Ensure compliance with NEC3/NEC4 processes including Early Warnings, CE management and programme submissions
  • Identify risks early, implement mitigation strategies and maintain programme resilience
  • Maintain strong communication with internal teams, clients, designers and supply chain partners
  • Support continuous improvement in planning, controls and delivery processes
  • Ensure all works are delivered safely, in line with CDM and company procedures

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree or recognised qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Strong background in self-delivery contracting (civils, infrastructure, structures, highways, utilities, energy etc.)
  • Proficient in Primavera P6 with a disciplined approach to logic, sequencing and progress control
  • Solid understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contract management and programme requirements
  • Strong documentation, reporting and governance capability
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams in a live construction environment
  • Ability to drive pace, maintain structure and bring clarity to complex programmes

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience delivering complex civil engineering works (structures, reinforced concrete, earthworks, drainage, temporary works, highways, utilities etc.)
  • Knowledge of CDM, construction sequencing and temporary works considerations
  • Exposure to project controls disciplines (risk, change, cost, earned value)
  • Professional membership or working towards (ICE, APM, CIOB etc.)
  • Experience with digital tools such as Aconex, CEMAR, Power BI or similar

What's on Offer

  • A role with genuine influence over programme direction and delivery
  • The chance to lead high-profile civil engineering projects with real technical complexity
  • A contractor that values ownership, accountability and high-quality delivery
  • Strong progression opportunities within a growing, ambitious business
  • A supportive environment that invests in training, development and professional accreditation
