I'm working with an established specialist traffic and highways consultancy that is looking to appoint a Highway Engineer to join its growing Bristol team.
This is an opportunity to work across the full development and highways lifecycle, from initial feasibility and layout design through to detailed highway design, technical approvals and construction. The company has been established for almost 30 years and works specifically within traffic, transportation and highway engineering, giving engineers the opportunity to build strong technical experience across a varied project portfolio.
You'll be involved in a mixture of development-led highway projects, working alongside transport planners, clients, developers and local authorities.
- Producing highway layouts and detailed designs for development schemes, including access arrangements, junctions, roundabouts and associated infrastructure.
- Using 3D design software to develop and coordinate highway designs, alongside vehicle tracking and layout design.
- Supporting highway schemes from feasibility and planning through to detailed design, technical approval and construction.
- Working on S278 and other highway agreements, coordinating with Local Highway Authorities and contributing to the progression of schemes through approval.
- Supporting the design of associated highway drainage and infrastructure where required.
- Working across a varied portfolio, including residential, commercial, retail and mixed-use developments, as well as larger junction and infrastructure schemes.
Experience in a highways design or development infrastructure environment.
- Practical experience producing highway layouts and detailed designs.
- Good understanding of UK highway standards and approval processes.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or 3D highway design software.
- Knowledge of vehicle tracking and swept path analysis.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and wider project teams.
- A Civil Engineering or related qualification would be advantageous.
You'll be joining a specialist consultancy where traffic, transport and highway engineering are the core business, rather than one small part of a large multidisciplinary organisation. The project workload provides genuine variety, from development access and layout design through to major signalised junctions, roundabouts, highway drainage and wider infrastructure. There is also the opportunity to work alongside transport planning colleagues on projects from the initial feasibility and planning stages through to detailed highway design and delivery.
If you're a Highway Engineer looking for strong technical exposure and the opportunity to work across the full development lifecycle, apply directly or contact Michael Finch at Aldwych Consulting.
