A leading specialist contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Estimator to join their commercial team.

The business delivers a range of civil engineering, groundworks and infrastructure projects, working with main contractors and developers across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator to join an established business with a strong pipeline of work and take responsibility for preparing competitive and commercially robust tenders.

The Role

As an Estimator, you will be responsible for managing tenders from initial enquiry through to submission, working closely with the commercial and operational teams to develop accurate and competitive pricing.

  • Preparing detailed estimates and tenders for civil engineering and groundworks projects.
  • Reviewing tender documentation, drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
  • Undertaking detailed take-offs and producing accurate cost estimates.
  • Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Developing competitive tender returns while ensuring commercial viability.
  • Identifying risks, opportunities and potential value-engineering solutions.
  • Liaising with clients, main contractors, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
  • Supporting the handover of successful projects to the delivery team.
  • Maintaining accurate estimating records and contributing to the development of estimating processes.

About You

  • Previous experience estimating civil engineering or groundworks projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and associated costs.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Strong numerical and commercial awareness.
  • Experience carrying out quantities/take-offs and analysing supplier/subcontractor quotations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider commercial and operational teams.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills. Candidates from a Quantity Surveying or commercial background who have moved into estimating will also be considered.
