Associate (Highways & Drainage Engineer) Aldershot (with 1 day/week in Waterlooville) Salary: Competitive + Benefits A great opportunity working for a specialist design practice recognised for its integrated approach to infrastructure design, supporting clients from conception through to construction. With a growing portfolio of large strategic housing and infrastructure projects across Hampshire, they\’re looking to appoint an experienced Associate (or ambitious Principal) Highways & Drainage Engineer to join their Aldershot team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone seeking career progression, including the chance to manage a direct technical team while still collaborating closely with project managers and colleagues across the business. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and delivery of highways and drainage infrastructure on major housing developments and urban extensions. Prepare and oversee Section 38, Section 278, Section 102/104 and S185 submissions, liaising with adopting authorities and stakeholders. Provide technical input on design standards including DMRB, MCHW, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20. Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including external consultants, planning consultants and utility providers. Oversee budgets, invoicing, and financial tracking across multiple projects. Support planning applications, including drainage strategies and discharging conditions. Attend client meetings, public consultations and site inspections, ensuring design compliance and quality delivery. Mentor and support junior staff, while contributing to business development and fee proposals. What They\’re Looking For: Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Chartered Engineer (CEng) with ICE or CIHT. 10+ years\’ experience working on UK highway and drainage infrastructure projects (feasibility, detailed design, and delivery). Strong background liaising with clients and managing communications from inception through to completion. Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with external stakeholders. Extensive project management experience, including meeting deadlines and budgets. Skilled in technical design and the application of UK highways and drainage standards. Confident in preparing technical reports, letters and structured design documents. Full UK driving licence and ability to attend sites not served by public transport.
