An award-winning, design-led structural and civil engineering consultancy in Central London is looking to appoint a Civil Design Engineer with a strong focus on drainage design to join its growing infrastructure team. This is an opportunity to join one of London's most dynamic and creative consultancies - a practice that places innovation, sustainability and collaboration at the centre of every project.

The Opportunity

You'll join a well-established infrastructure team of around 20 engineers within a wider 160+ person practice. The office environment is modern, open-plan and purpose-designed, located just moments from Old Street Station. The consultancy works on high-profile, design-driven schemes including:

  • High-rise and architecturally ambitious residential developments
  • Modern commercial and retail buildings
  • Education, arts and cultural institutions
  • Public realm and regeneration projects

This role places particular emphasis on drainage strategy and detailed drainage design, supporting complex urban developments from early concept stage through to delivery. You'll work closely with structural engineers and architects, contributing technical expertise that directly influences creative and sustainable design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of surface water and foul drainage strategies
  • Detailed drainage design using MicroDrainage (or similar)
  • Coordination of below-ground infrastructure within multidisciplinary design teams
  • Supporting highways and external works design
  • Liaison with local authorities and statutory bodies
  • Contributing to sustainable drainage (SuDS) solutions in dense urban environments

About You

  • Experience in drainage and highway design within a consultancy environment
  • Proficiency in MicroDrainage and Civil 3D (or similar software)
  • Passion for high-quality, collaborative design
  • Proactive, accountable and eager to take responsibility
  • Ambition to achieve Chartership (full support provided)
