An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) to join an established and growing specialist contractor operating within the commercial construction, fit-out and workplace sector. This is a key hire for the business, looking for an experienced construction BDM with a strong network of industry contacts and a proven ability to generate new business.

The ideal candidate will bring valuable years of construction experience and, ideally, an established Tier 1 contractor contact book, with relationships across major contractors, FM providers and professional property organisations.

As Business Development Manager, you will take ownership of developing new business opportunities across London and the wider commercial construction market. You will utilise your existing network while proactively identifying new opportunities, building relationships with key decision-makers and taking opportunities through to tender and appointment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a targeted business development strategy.
  • Generate new opportunities through an established construction-sector network.
  • Build relationships with Tier 1 contractors, FM providers, consultants, developers, landlords and occupiers.
  • Identify upcoming projects and opportunities before they reach the wider market.
  • Develop relationships with Commercial Directors, Procurement, Project Managers, QSs and Facilities Managers.
  • Manage opportunities from initial introduction through to tender and appointment.
  • Work closely with commercial, estimating and project teams to develop proposals.
  • Maintain and grow existing client relationships.
  • Manage CRM, pipeline and business development activity.

Key Requirements/ Ideal Experience:

  • Established and commercially driven BDM with a demonstrable track record within construction.
  • Experience in a Business Development role within: Commercial construction, Office fit-out/refurbishment, Commercial interiors, Design & Build, Main contracting, Facilities Management, Property/workplace, Construction consultancy.
  • Proven BDM/sales experience within construction.
  • A strong and established construction-sector contact network.
  • Ideally, an established Tier 1 contractor contact book.
  • Existing relationships with Tier 1 contractors, FM providers, consultants, developers, landlords and/or occupiers.
  • A proven track record of generating new business and winning work.
  • Several years' construction experience and strong market knowledge.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of the construction project lifecycle.
  • Confidence engaging with senior decision-makers.
  • Strong communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • A consultative, credible and relationship-led approach.
  • The autonomy and drive to create opportunities rather than rely on inbound leads.

Salary & Package: £75,000 - £100,000 basic, depending on experience and network. Commission/performance-related bonus. Market value package available for the right individual. Exceptional candidates with a strong Tier 1 contact book will be considered accordingly.
