The Opportunity
As a Senior Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer, you will take a leading role in the delivery of flood risk and drainage projects from feasibility through to detailed design and technical approval. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the production of Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and drainage strategies for planning applications
- Designing and reviewing SuDS and surface water management systems
- Delivering foul and surface water drainage designs using industry-standard software
- Contributing to Section 104, Section 38 and Section 278 design elements where required
- Managing project delivery, ensuring technical quality, programme adherence and commercial awareness
- Liaising with local authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, the Environment Agency and utility providers
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and technicians
- Attending client meetings, design reviews and planning discussions
- Assisting with project scoping, fee proposals and workload planning
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who can demonstrate:
- Strong experience in drainage, flood risk or infrastructure engineering within consultancy or development environments
- Proven ability to produce Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies for planning submissions
- Experience delivering detailed drainage design for residential and mixed-use developments
- Working knowledge of UK drainage adoption processes (Sections 38, 104, 278)
- Proficiency with industry tools such as MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage, AutoCAD or similar
- Understanding of planning policy and regulatory frameworks (EA, LLFA, water companies)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and take technical ownership
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Relevant civil engineering qualification and progression towards or membership of ICE or CIWEM
