We are seeking an Environmental Coordinator to work for our client. They are a contractor working in the built environment and are working on a range of interesting projects across the south of England. You will support environmental compliance, permitting, and sustainability across a range of construction and infrastructure projects. The role involves monitoring site activities, managing documentation, coordinating specialists, and ensuring that environmental standards are met throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, project conditions, and organisational procedures.
- Manage site monitoring activities (air, water, noise, ecology) and maintain accurate environmental records.
- Develop and review Environmental Management Plans, waste management plans, and supporting documentation.
- Analyse environmental data and produce clear, accurate reports for audits and project teams.
- Coordinate input from environmental specialists and subconsultants to support project delivery.
- Prepare and support environmental permit and licence applications for construction activities.
- Provide environmental input for bid submissions, including sustainability, permitting strategy, and risk.
- Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
- Deliver training, briefings, and toolbox talks to raise environmental awareness on site.
- Assist with internal and external audits, including those aligned with ISO 14001.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, including biodiversity enhancement, carbon reduction, and circular-economy practices.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and permitting.
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques.
- Familiarity with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
- Able to interpret technical documents, consents, and planning requirements.
- Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
Experience
- Previous experience in an environmental role within construction, civil engineering, or consultancy.
- Experience preparing and implementing environmental management plans.
- Background in environmental monitoring, compliance auditing, or sustainability initiatives.
Training & Certification
- Full driving licence (essential).
- CSCS Card.
Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA/IES) or working towards professional registration.
