Overview

We\\\’re working with a civil engineering contractor to recruit a Plant Operations Manager. This role is ideal for someone with excellent organisational skills and a proven ability to coordinate people, equipment, and processes in a fast-paced environment.

You\\\’ll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of internal and external plant hire operations, ensuring clear planning, efficient utilisation of assets, and smooth collaboration across teams. Supporting the Plant Manager, you\\\’ll play a key part in driving operational improvements, supporting compliance, and managing both internal and external supply arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating daily plant hire operations, minimising downtime and duplication
  • Monitoring utilisation, investigating losses/damages, and driving improvements
  • Supporting compliance, toolbox talks, and departmental communications
  • Line managing stores and hire teams, with oversight of fleet/workshop functions when needed
  • Developing supplier agreements and supporting stock control for better cost efficiency

Qualifications

  • Strong coordination and organisational skills with a practical approach
  • Background in plant hire, logistics, or fleet operations (desirable but not essential)
  • Experience managing or supporting operational teams
  • Proficiency with MS Office and business/asset systems
  • Full UK driving licence (essential)
