Are you an experienced Transport Planner looking for a senior-level opportunity with a well-established consultancy in Exeter? I'm working with a highly regarded development planning and infrastructure consultancy that is expanding its Transport Planning team due to continued growth. They're looking for an experienced Senior or Principal Transport Planner who can take ownership of projects, manage client relationships and help mentor junior members of the team.
You'll be joining a well-established team of engineers, transport planners and technicians, working across a diverse range of development and infrastructure projects.
The Role
As a Senior / Principal Transport Planner, you'll take responsibility for independently leading and delivering multiple projects, including:
- Managing client relationships and providing a high level of client care
- Representing the consultancy at project meetings, public consultations and negotiations with Highway Authorities
- Managing project finances, including fee proposals, change control and invoicing
- Coordinating inputs from multidisciplinary teams and ensuring projects are delivered to programme
- Developing technical solutions and ensuring high-quality transport planning outputs
- Providing technical support to senior management
- Mentoring and supporting junior members of the team, with potential future line management responsibilities
- Contributing to business development and winning new work
About You
We're looking for someone with around 5-10 years' experience in transport planning, ideally within a private-sector development planning consultancy. You'll ideally have experience across areas such as:
- Transport Assessments and Statements
- Development access strategies and feasibility studies
- Travel Plans
- S106 negotiations
- Preliminary highway design
- Highway Authority negotiations
- Development planning and the wider planning system
- Appeal work would be advantageous
You should also have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Transport Planning or a related subject
- Professional qualification or demonstrable progress towards IEng, CEng or TPP
- Strong knowledge of the NPPF and UK planning system
- Good understanding of highway design guidance, including MfS and DMRB
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Good commercial awareness and project management experience
- Experience with software such as ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig, GIS and Excel
- CAD experience is advantageous, although not essential
- The ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and drive work forward
