The Opportunity

We are working on behalf of a leading multidisciplinary construction consultancy that is expanding its Construction Health & Safety team into a dedicated Compliance Division, creating a brand-new opportunity for a Building Regulations Principal Designer. This position has been established in response to recent legislative changes within the construction industry, particularly the Building Safety Act, offering the chance to play a vital role in shaping compliance standards across the UK's built environment. You will join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, working on diverse and high-profile projects across residential, commercial, retail, office, healthcare, education, leisure, industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients and project teams on the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations.
  • Undertake plan checks and review design submissions to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Attend design and client meetings, providing clear and professional technical guidance.
  • Offer technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure all designs meet current building regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality output, ensuring accuracy and best practice.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat and new business and escalate to senior management.
  • Support the preparation of bid submissions and fee proposals.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients and project partners.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in a construction or design-related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience working on multiple construction projects across various sectors.
  • Strong understanding of the design and construction process and inspection practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Building Regulations, compliance codes, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written (reports, trackers) and verbal (client meetings).
  • Chartered Membership or working towards membership with RICS, CABE, or CIOB.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Strong IT proficiency, including SharePoint and related software tools.
