We are looking for a Graduate Highways Engineer to join one of London's leading independent transport consultancies. This role is ideal for a recent Civil Engineering graduate or someone with up to 1–2 years of experience who wants to kick‑start a career in highways and infrastructure design. You will work on urban highway, public realm and transport infrastructure projects across London and the wider UK and develop both technical and commercial skills in a supportive environment.

The Role

As a Graduate Highways Engineer you will support the design and delivery of urban highway and public realm schemes, working closely with experienced engineers and project teams. You will gain exposure to projects from concept design through to detailed design and construction, developing a strong technical and commercial foundation for an engineering consultancy career.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the design of highways, junction improvements, public realm and transport infrastructure schemes.
  • Producing and developing technical drawings using AutoCAD, with exposure to Civil 3D where appropriate.
  • Supporting the preparation of design calculations, reports and technical documentation.
  • Assisting with S278 highway schemes and development‑related infrastructure projects.
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated engineering solutions.
  • Attending project meetings and site visits to develop practical engineering knowledge.
  • Supporting senior engineers in delivering high‑quality, sustainable designs.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A genuine interest in highways, transportation and urban infrastructure design.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Good communication and team‑working abilities.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or a willingness to develop proficiency.
  • Understanding of highways engineering principles gained through university studies, placements or industry experience.
  • Desire to work towards professional accreditation with ICE, CIHT or a similar institution.

Exposure to Civil 3D, drainage design, highways design projects or placement experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

What's on Offer?

  • Performance‑related bonuses.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus your birthday off.
  • Private medical insurance, including mental health support via Vitality.
  • 8% employer pension contribution.
  • Professional subscriptions paid.
  • Continuous training, CPD and mentoring programmes.
  • In‑house wellbeing initiatives, including massages and yoga sessions.
  • Regular social events and knowledge‑sharing lunches.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
