The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established civil engineering contractor to recruit a Junior / Assistant Estimator or an established estimator to support their pre-construction and commercial teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional or graduate looking to develop a long-term career in civil engineering estimating.

You will work alongside experienced estimators and commercial managers, gaining hands-on exposure to tendering, cost planning and bid preparation across a range of infrastructure and coastal projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of tender submissions for civil engineering projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Support take-offs, quantity measurements and cost build-ups.
  • Help identify risks, opportunities and value-engineering options.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and quotations.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to tender handover processes.
  • Support post-tender reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

This role would suit someone who is:

  • At an early stage of their estimating or civil engineering career.
  • Educated to HNC / HND / Degree level in Civil Engineering or Construction (or working towards).
  • Keen to learn estimating from first principles within a supportive team environment.
  • Organised, numerate and detail-focused.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
  • A strong communicator with a proactive, positive attitude.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Some site experience within civil engineering or construction.
  • Exposure to tendering, cost control or commercial processes.
  • Full UK driving licence.
