We are working with a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering a long-term programme of infrastructure works across the North West. Due to continued growth and a strong forward order book, they are looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a secure, multi-year programme involving a diverse range of civil engineering and utility projects, offering long-term career progression and exposure to high-value frameworks.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of projects from inception through to final account, ensuring contractual compliance and maximising commercial performance. Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing project costs, forecasts, and cash flow.
- Preparation and submission of applications for payment and compensation events.
- Administration of subcontract accounts, including procurement, valuations, and final accounts.
- Supporting the management of change control and risk processes.
- Producing accurate cost/value reports and commercial forecasts.
- Working closely with operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Maintaining contractual records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution where required.
About You
We are keen to speak with Quantity Surveyors who have experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, highways, rail, energy, or related sectors. You will ideally have:
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a civil engineering or infrastructure environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience administering NEC contracts.
- Experience managing compensation events and change control processes.
- Good commercial awareness and financial management skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong reporting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within the water, utilities, or regulated infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with CEMAR contract management software.
- Experience working on framework or alliance-based delivery models.
- Membership of, or progression towards, a relevant professional body (RICS, ICES, CIOB, etc.).
