An employee-owned, international engineering and consultancy practice is seeking a Senior or Principal Transport Planner to join its growing Policy and Strategy team. This is an opportunity to work within a highly respected advisory group delivering people-focused, sustainable transport solutions for UK public sector clients. The Role
You will join a UK-focused transport planning and engineering advisory team, supporting the delivery of policy- and strategy-led transport projects that help drive sustainable mobility and energy transition objectives. Operating at Senior or Principal level, you will play a key role in shaping project direction, managing client relationships and contributing to the growth of the practice. A core requirement of the role is experience in developing robust, evidence-based business cases to support sustainable transport initiatives and secure public sector investment. You will work closely with colleagues across the UK and internationally, drawing on wider placemaking and mobility expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and contributing to transport policy and strategy projects for UK public sector clients
- Preparing high-quality research, analysis and reports to inform decision-making and funding bids
- Developing business cases for sustainable transport schemes and active travel initiatives
- Engaging with stakeholders to build consensus and secure investment
- Managing project tasks, budgets and delivery programmes
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships and identifying opportunities for new work
- Supporting, mentoring and developing junior colleagues

- Proven experience producing business cases for sustainable transport projects
- A sound understanding of UK transport policy and current sector challenges
- Strong research, analytical and report-writing skills
- Confidence working with stakeholders across local authorities and public bodies
- Experience managing workstreams, budgets and client expectations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A relevant professional qualification and active engagement with the profession
- Transport modelling & analysis tools: TRICS, Junctions 9/10/11, LinSig, TEMPRO, Census and DfT/WebTAG datasets
- Design, data & visualisation software: AutoCAD, GIS platforms (QGIS / ArcGIS), and advanced Excel for data analysis and forecasting
