A senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the Credit function has the capability, structure, and capacity to support the Bank’s wholesale lending strategy. The role provides oversight of wholesale credit risk, delivers independent challenge, and maintains robust credit risk frameworks and controls, acting as delegate for the Head of Wholesale Credit when required.
As a key partner to the business and Risk function, you will help shape wholesale credit strategy using strong commercial and industry expertise. The role is a Senior Credit Officer, holding a £25–30m credit mandate, with responsibility for the governance, oversight, and effective use of credit mandates across the Bank, while acting as an ambassador for Aldermore’s values.
The position is available in both our Reading and London offices, with hybrid working as standard.

What will your day look like?
The role will report into the Head of Wholesale Credit, who will be your line manager and responsible for things like performance review meetings, 1-1s and development conversations.
You will be responsible for:
- Lead and resource the Wholesale Credit teams to ensure capability, capacity, and structure remain aligned to the Bank’s evolving origination strategy, product mix, and volumes.
- Provide senior oversight, independent challenge, and approval of complex wholesale credit transactions within delegated mandate, ensuring alignment with risk appetite, policy, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain effective governance of credit risk by overseeing lending mandates, proactively identifying and escalating emerging risks, breaches, or issues through appropriate forums.
- Act as a key partner to the business, Risk function, and regulators, supporting the development of wholesale credit strategy, policies, and a strong risk culture across the Bank.
- Lead, develop, and inspire high-performing credit teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, including oversight of workout and restructuring activity.
- Provide leadership continuity as deputy to the Head of Wholesale Credit, representing the function at key committees and forums and acting as delegate when required.

- Proven expertise in wholesale credit risk management, providing independent challenge, strategic oversight, and thought leadership in credit decisioning.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, capable of building high-performing teams, fostering accountability, and maintaining continuity as a trusted deputy.
- Excellent communication and influencing abilities, able to engage stakeholders at all levels, escalate issues, and provide clear guidance.
- Deep understanding of regulatory requirements, credit risk processes, scoring methods, and the use of automation/auto-decisioning for efficiency.
- Experienced in balancing business outcomes with risk, collaborating across functions, and providing oversight of credit exposure to ensure SLA adherence.
- Skilled at developing relationships internally and externally, shaping credit strategy, and promoting a culture of ownership, performance, and continual improvement.
