Risk & Control Specialists play a key role in providing expert guidance and oversight of non-financial risk, partnering with business and functional teams to enable safe, controlled, and informed decision-making. This is a highly technical role, supporting key stakeholders and certified individuals to identify, assess, and manage emerging and crystallised risks, with clear escalation where appropriate. You will translate risk and control policies into practical, actionable requirements that drive understanding, embedment, and compliance across the business. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the non-financial risk framework, supporting the design, testing, and embedding of robust risk management and governance practices. Success in this role comes from combining strong subject matter expertise with the ability to build effective relationships across the risk and control community and all three lines of defence.
What will your day look like? Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert for non-financial risk within a designated business area, providing guidance and constructive challenge to strengthen the control environment.
- Partner with business and functional teams (embedded and non-embedded) to support effective, risk-aware decision-making.
- Identify, assess, and support the mitigation of emerging and crystallised risks, escalating where appropriate.
- Translate risk policies, frameworks, and standards into clear, practical actions to drive understanding, embedment, and compliance.
- Lead oversight and analysis of risk events, issues, and control failures, ensuring timely and effective remediation.
- Perform root cause and trend analysis to identify themes, drive continuous improvement, and enhance risk management effectiveness.
- Support RCSA activity, including workshops, attestations, control testing, and ongoing maintenance of risk profiles.
- Contribute to governance forums and risk committees, supporting reporting, insights, and the continuous improvement of non-financial risk practices.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of the Financial Services industry.
- Experience within a risk and control or similar governance function.
- Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g. MCOB, CONC, CCA, Consumer Duty) and wider regulatory best practice.
- Confident engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical mindset with experience delivering risk reporting and tracking actions through to completion.
